Re-cladding your home with Linea Weatherboard
The James Hardie fibre cement weatherboard range, including Linea Weatherboard, is ideal for new homes as well as re-cladding existing homes. Here are some tips and things to consider:
- New weatherboards should not be fixed over existing weatherboards
- Remove all paintings and hanging objects from inside the wall to avoid damage from nailing vibration
- Outside, remove clamps holding rainwater downpipes to walls and carefully prop the downpipes away from the wall
- Remove all existing cover mouldings from over joints, corners, under windows and doors and from top of the wall
- Check exposed framing for dry rot and see whether window and door architraves and head flashings are in good condition. Replace where necessary
- If you have any doubts about the condition of existing cladding, remove it entirely. Removing the existing cladding will also give you the opportunity to add insulation to the wall cavity if you require it
- If the original wall cladding has been removed and the new cladding boards are to be fixed directly to the house frame, check that all flashings comply with the New Zealand building code
- Remember different homes will have different weatherboard profiles. Check that the new weatherboards match the old if replacing only a section of a home. Linea weatherboards come in either a 135mm, 150mm or 180mm profile
