Space Saver Bathroom

Myra bought her 1970s two bedroom apartment about 4 years ago.  Part of the decision to purchase the home was to make a few adjustments to the kitchen and bathroom.

Her bathroom doubled up as laundry, there was a shower, toilet and a vanity.  The idea was to create a space that she could use as a tranquil escape from the day to day stresses of life.

The existing bathroom space was very small, the renovation needed to ensure that the new bathroom was well used and designed to maximise the limited amount of space.  In any bathroom renovation, layout is critical; certain pieces placed strategically in the area can create the illusion of space.  One of the design aspects taken into account was the shower over bath; this combined to bathing options into one area and created loads more space. Storage was also critical, Myra had a cupboard created beside the bath to store her towels, toiletries and cleaning products so that they stayed out of site and kept the bathroom looking crisp and clutter free.

At the start of the build, the builder demolished the entire bathroom; the only item that was untouched was the black slate floor.   Myra chose to reline the walls with HardiGlaze Satin Lining and natural anodised aluminium jointers were used to break up the stark white colour of the HardiGlaze Lining panels.  On the ceiling she used HardiGroove Lining.  The bathroom fixtures were purchased from Clearlite Bathrooms; this included a shower over bath, a glass shower panel and WC.  The vanity was handmade from recycled Rimu and a free form hand basin was installed.

Myra is very pleased with her new bathroom; she said “that she can now have a bit of luxury everyday after a hard days work.”
