Demolitions Done!

Here we are in part two of five in Matt and Rowena’s bathroom renovation.  This week the demolition is completed.  The old bathroom fittings are out and it’s been taken back to the shell ready for the rebuild.

When you’re renovating, you never know what you’re going to find until you peel back the layers and that’s exactly what we found on this project.  The old tiles came up and the floor underneath had rotted away due to leaky waste water.  Conrad was quick to put on this problem solving cap on and the whole floor was replaced.  Tile and Slate Underlay was placed over the top to provide a solid substrate for the new tiles.

When tiling your floor it’s important to make sure you water proof it correctly.  What goes underneath is equally as important as what goes on top!  Read here for more tips and tricks when tiling.

Now the fun really begins.  Matt and Rowena had some colour choices to make.  They’ve decided to go with James Hardie Horizon Lining on the bathroom walls.  With two kids, they wanted to make sure their wall linings were easy to clean, durable enough to take the knocks and would continue to look good for years to come.  There’s also the consideration of $$.  Selecting a pre-finished product that can also be fixed directly to the stud really can help keep the renovation budget under control.  For their bathroom, Matt and Rowena have decided to go with Day Break and White Cloud Horizon Lining.

Another money saving tip is installing a solar water heating system.  Matt and Rowena are installing a Solapac heating system.  Solapac is a family owned business that offers European quality at affordable prices.  Solar heating is an investment and it’s the only appliance you purchase that will actually save you money.

You could be entitled to an EECA grant of up to $1,000 – click here to find out more

With water heating taken care of, there’s no chance of running out of hot water so Matt and Rowena get to enjoy their new Athena bath.
