Back to the Future
Ingrid and Gavin’s bathroom was in desperate need of an update their home was built in the 1970’s and the bathroom had not been updated since then. The colour scheme was typical of it's era, the wallpaper was peach with flowers, the bath was peach and the faux marble vanity was peach.
The vanity was falling apart; the wallpaper was pulling away from the walls and showing damp and black mould behind it. The floor was tiled with cork, and in an attempt to cover it up they applied lino tiles over the top of it with no success! In addition to this their shower was too small; they couldn’t even turn around without hitting the walls. The extractor fan was extracting moisture into the ceiling which was not ideal, so it was never used.
In November 2008 James Hardie ran a competition to celebrate the launch of Horizon Lining. A prefinished interior wet and dry wall lining that is available in 8 different colours. Ingrid and Gavin were the lucky recipients of the makeover and with the money they were saving for their new bathroom and the prize pack they were able to create the bathroom of their dreams.
The completely stripped the old bathroom, they got rid of everything including the lino covered cork tiles. This left Ingrid and Gavin with a blank canvas to work with. A design consultant helped with the overall layout of the bathroom to improve flow and to ensure that the space was well planned. Once all the ground work was completed, they had the opportunity to demolish and remove all the existing fixtures, so that they could make room for their new spa bath, shower, vanity and toilet. They lined the walls with James Hardie’s Horizon Lining White Cloud and used the naturally anodized jointers, to create interest on the walls.
The change was dramatic, although the size of the bathroom was not changed the colour scheme and smart product choices made a huge difference to the perceived space in the room.
Needless to say, Ingrid and Gavin are very pleased with their new bathroom, Ingid said “it looks fantastic” Ingrid mentioned in her entry that she hated her bathroom, it fair to say now, that all that’s changed!
